As im sure you can tell by our portfolio, we are proud authors on two of the Envato Marketplaces – CodeCanyon and ThemeForest. Although we have only been part of the community for a few months we believe we have some handy half decent tips to share for any new authors looking for a place to start. In this post I will share some awesome, and mostly free resources you could use to build your website and support center.
There are a host of free themes out there, and whilst you could spend an age looking for the right one, or even building from scratch, I found that the sublime Supportte theme by the incredibly talented Syamil MJ (I will be mentioning this dude a few times over the course of these posts – the amount of excellent, free stuff this guy has there is incredible)
The main killer feature Supportte offers is its ‘built in’ support forum. Admittedly you do need to install a number of additional plugins (all listed on the github page) but if your following these tips then the next bit will cover most of the necessary plugins anyway.
I should also point out that this very site is built from Supportte, we just threw in some bootstrap goodness and a few choice plugs and where all set.
Setting Up Your Support Forum
The only real value I can chuck at your here is an little freebie from IshYoBoy – the brilliant Purchase Verification plugin. This will allow you to create an exclusive support forum for verified users only using the Envato API.
Extra Plugins To Consider
I wont go into the basic stuff here like SEO plugins or cache plugins, here are a few nice plugins we have utilized throughout our site and figure you may find one or two useful.
Fancier Author Box – A great little plugin if you are going to start blogging. It adds a sweet little box under your plugins and is really easy to customize with a little CSS knowhow.
MailPoet Newsletters – If you are interested in start a newsletter to keep your ever-growing customers up to date? Well this amazing offering makes is so easy, its rude not to use it.
